SYRIA, Kingdom of, Cleopatra Thea and Antiochus VIII (125-121 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.51 g), Ake-Ptolemais mint, dated by Newell to 125 B.C., obv. cojoined heads to right, of Cleopatra veiled and diademed and her son Anthiochus VIII to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus Nikephoros enthroned holding Nike and sceptre, to right field **[BAS]ILIS[SHS] / KLEOPATRAS / QEAS* in left field **KAI / BASILEWS / ANTIOCOU*, U/**S* monogram in left field, (cf.S.7135, SC 2271.1, LSM 8, cf.Houghton 722 var., Newell 8 [Pl.II, ANS NNM 84], HGC 9, 1182g). Lightly toned, good very fine or better and rare.

The attribution of the issue was first recognised by Newell as belonging to Ake-Ptolemais and this is also recognised by Houghton.
