PHILISTIA, (Palestine), Askalon, (98/7 - 54/3 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (13.78 g), Ptolemaic standard, dated year 41 (63/2 B.C.), obv. diademed and draped male bust right, rev. Eagle standing left, palm frond over shoulder, to left, LMA (date), above dove standing left, **DW* monogram between legs, around **[IERAS AS]YLOU ASKA[LWNITWN]* (sacred and inviolate of (the people of) Askalon), (S.6076 Spaer -; SNG ANS 652 (same obv. die). Toned with light cleaning marks under toning, very fine and very rare.
