Charles I (1625-1649), Group I, Halfcrown, 1625, Type 1a², Tower (under King), King on horseback left, plume on head dress and atop caparison, no ground line, stops flank m.m., reads MAG BRI FRA ET HI REX, rev. (m.m.) CHRI | STO AV | SPICE | REGNO, square-topped and garnished shield over cross fourchée, 14.53g, 2h, m.m. lis (Hawkins 1a²; Francis 1a; Brooker 280 same obverse die; North 2202; Spink 2764), scruffy and lightly porous on account of being a reported river find, some minor striking splits to peripheries, otherwise about fine, rare.

Given the proximity of the reported findspot to Blackfriars Bridge, it is conceivable that this coin is an earlier stray from the famous Commonwealth hoard of some 1,500 coins recovered there and sold in London, in October 1997.
