Bare head right / MART VLTO across field, temple of Mars Ultor: circular, domed, tetrastyle temple set on five-tiered base; a signum within. RIC I 507; Sutherland Group VIIγ; RPC I 2220; RSC 202. Toned, obverse double struck, some shallow scratches. Good Fine.

From the Stein A. Evensen Collection. Ex Gorny & Mosch 115 (5 March 2002), lot 1355.

This issue was struck to commemorate the recovery by Augustus of the standards lost by Crassus to the Parthians. The standard seen here is housed in a small temple that was located on the Capitoline, and which served as a temporary home for the standards until the completion of the temple to Mars Ultor in the Forum of Augustus.
