Near Very Fine. Very Rare.
From a private European collection.
The distinction of this very rare seal of John II Comnenus from the common seals of his predecessors, Alexius I Comnenus and Michael VII Doukas, is the reverse inscription which honours John with the titles of despotes and porphyrogennetos - a combination of regalia which can be found on his coinage (for example, see Sear 1945).
