Vespasian Æ Sestertius. Lugdunum, AD 72. [IMP] CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M TR P P P COS IIII, laureate head to right, globe at point of bust / T IMP AVG [F COS II CAES]AR DOMITIANVS AVG F COS DESIG II, Titus and Domitian standing facing, each holding spear and parazonium; S-C across fields. RIC II.2 1186; BN ('faux') 19; BMCRE 814 note. 24.97g, 34mm, 7h.

Good Fine; cleaning marks in fields. Very Rare.

From the Antonio Carmona Collection.

RIC notes that the specimen held by the Bibliothèque nationale has incomplete inscriptions, and thus was listed as 'false' in the catalogue of their holdings. The belief that this was incorrect, and the decision to include this variant of the type in RIC, has been shown to have been the correct one as the present coin confirms again.
