Maximinus I AR Denarius. Rome, AD 236-238. MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right / VICTORIA GERM, Victory standing to left with wreath and palm, captive at feet. RIC IV 23; BMCRE 186; RSC 107. 2.75g, 19mm, 12h.
Near Extremely Fine.
From the Stefan Gochev Collection.
RIC notes that though little is known of the war waged by Maximinus against the German tribes, it is understood that the Emperor showed conspicuous personal bravery. Maximinus having assumed the title of Germanicus Maximus in early AD 236, this reverse type also celebrates his victories.
