Diocletian (284-305). AR Argenteus, Aquileia mint. Obv. DIOCLETIANVS AVG. Laureate head right. Rev. XCVI/ AQ within wreath. RIC VI 16a (R3). AR. 3.15 g. 17.50 mm. RR. Very rare. Hairline surface crack at obverse and slightly porous, otherwise good VF/ About EF.

The reverse of this coin, with the denominational mark XCVI, shows that it was struck to be 1/96th of a Roman pound of silver and therefore in line with Diocletian's reform of the monetary system of circa AD 294.
(Roma Numismatics 29, 2016, 608 note).
