THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 35 mm, 15.38 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing taenia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΔIONYΣOY - ΣΩTHPOΣ / MAPΩNITΩN Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; to inner left and right, monogram. Schönert-Geiss 1076-81. Winterthur 1228. An attractive example of lovely early style. Minor marks and very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
