ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Danishmendids (Sivas). Shams al-Din Isma'il, AH 559-567 / AD 1164-1172. Dirham (Bronze, 29 mm, 9.30 g, 6 h), Sivas. 'al-Malik al'Alim / al-Adil Shams / al-Dunya wa'l-Din' in Kufic in three lines. Rev. 'Abu'l-Muzaffar Ismail ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad Zahir Amir, al-Mu'minin' in Kufic Male figure seated facing on an archshaped throne within dotted circle, wearing a patterned caftan with a pearled hem at about knee height; the legs are in pantaloons, the feet in boots. Whelan pl. 17, 12b. Rare. A beautiful piece with a lovely dark patina. Some areas of weakness, otherwise, about extremely fine.
