ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Uncertain, 1256-1335. Fals (Bronze, 26 mm, 3.84 g, 4 h), possibly citing a 'Sultan Tagay', without mint and date. Nimbate and draped male figure seated with cross legs facing, placing his right hand on his right thigh and holding flower in his raised left hand; in lower field to right, three pellets. Rev. Legend in either Uyghur or a different Turkic language in three lines within circle surrounded by dots. Unpublished and unique. Minor flan faults, otherwise, very fine.
This mysterious piece has not yet revealed its secrets. It could either be related to the Ilkhans, or it might be a Post-Ilkhanid imitation.
