KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.20 g, 2 h), Babylon, struck under Stamenes or Archon, circa 323. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; on cheek, circular countermark. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, sickle (?) above M; below throne, monogram. Price 3676. Very fine.
