AKARNANIA. Leukas. Circa 320-280 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 8.56 g, 7 h). [Λ] Pegasus flying left. Rev. Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet; below, monogram of ΑΓ; behind neck guard, [Λ] and head of Attis left, wearing Phrygian cap; to right, countermark: trident head within circular incuse. BCD Akarnania -, cf. 265 (no monogram). Calciati 98 CM/4. Imhhof-Blumer -, cf. 33 (no monogram). Extremely rare with the countermark. Struck from slightly worn dies and with very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed before 2005.

It is very rare to find countermarks on Corinthian type pegasoi. In the case of our coin, the countermark was carefully placed behind Athena's neck guard and shows a trident in a circular incuse.
