LYDIA, Sardis. Germanicus, with Drusus. Caesar, 15 BC-AD 19. Æ (28.5mm, 13.46 g, 12h). Originally struck circa AD 23-26. Restruck under Asinius Pollio, proconsul, circa AD 28-29. Drusus and Germanicus seated left in curule chairs / [KOINOY/AΣIAΣ] in two lines wreath. RPC I 2995; BMC 106. Brown patina with touches of green and red. VF.

This peculiar issue is often found restruck with two intricate "countermarks." These "countermarks" were ring-shaped punches that surrounded the obverse and reverse designs and carried legends. While the obverse "countermark-legend" is the same as that which appeared on the original striking, the reverse legend has been replaced by a new "countermark-legend."
