Maximilian silver "Small Letters" Pattern Peso 1866-Mo MS66+ NGC, Mexico City mint, KM-Pn100, WR-64, Elizondo-171, Buttrey/Hubbard-45. Small letters type. An already highly challenging Pattern type that escalates to an entirely new level of rarity when found so pristine, and one which is simply never encountered in grades above choice. Besting the Millennia example by a full four and "a half" points, the piece seen here easily far outpaces the competition, with the next nicest at either NGC or PCGS being a 63+. While simply assigned a standard Mint State designation on its holder insert, the coin could easily be seen in a Proof or Specimen grade on account of its immaculate, highly reflective surfaces and pinpoint precise device execution, resulting in features that seem to rise in medallic relief against the fields surrounding. A specimen poised to afford its future owner endless enjoyment, and one worthy of the utmost bidder attention.
