Spanish Colony. Alfonso XIII Peso 1897 SG-V MS65 NGC, Madrid mint, KM154, Dav-443, Basso-59. Elusive in anything resembling Gem Mint State, especially so with semi-Prooflike appearances accompanied by the current selection. Practically as-struck with mirrored fields in direct cameo-like contrast to a frosted portrait of Alfonso XIII, the reverse with equally as dramatic appearances exhibiting an unblemished, trademark crowned arms flanked by the Pillars of Gibraltar. Only two others have been bestowed this elite designation, with none seen loftier.
Ex. R.L. Lissner Collection (CNG-St. James's Auction 29, August 2014, Lot 811); Purchased from M. Louis Teller in February 1982.
