Philip V 8 Reales 1728 S-P MS66 NGC, Seville mint, KM336.3, Dav-1697, Cal-1618 (prev. Cal-938), Cay-9313. A resplendent cabinet piece, and almost certainly one of the finest survivors of the type in existence. The strike is not only sharp, but complete, resulting in a crisp definition that extends to even the most minute design elements within the shield, as well as every brick in the castles and hair strand in the lions' manes to the reverse. A glistening sheen of luster envelopes these features with a slight tilt of the coin in hand to unveil a majestic presentation, nearly unimpacted by contact or handling these past 300 years, save for a hint of friction to the lower obverse periphery. Indeed, it is this potent combination of precision-crafted detail and glassy, nearly perfect luster that yields what can only be described as a stellar visual presentation. Accordingly, we expect fierce bidding for this peak-level example, tied for the finest seen by NGC to date with only one other.
