Philip V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1713 MXo-J MS65 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM57.1, Cal-2211, Onza-390 (Extremely Rare), Oro Macuquino-390 (Extremely Rare). 27.00gm. A type that perfectly pairs absolute with conditional rarity, and one which, though carrying many of the trademarks typical of period Cobs, flies in the face of so many of the problems that often plague the series. Exceeded by just two MS66's in the whole of the certified population, this specimen positively exudes Gem Mint State quality--hardly an inch of the surfaces is without ranks of thick die polish lines, the struck detail rising sharply from the fields, all while a pervasive luster dominates throughout. Even given the trademark unevenness of the strike, the dies have managed to capture the fullness of the date, MXo mintmark, and the assayer's initial, creating a wholly covetable piece.
