Philip IV gold Cob 8 Escudos ND (1634-1659) S-R MS61 NGC, Seville mint, KM59.2, Cal-Type 406, Oro Macuquino-66a. 26.78gm. An appreciable Cob type which, although the date is characteristically absent from the flan, contains a clear mint letter and assayer's initial. Surprisingly few examples of this type have been certified at this level or finer, NGC stating that they have certified a single MS62, with most of the population ranking at the AU level or below. Though mild cabinet friction and a light peppering of marks bound the designation, the protected regions still contain a bold lustrous surface studded by die polish.
