Diocletian (AD 284-305). AV aureus (20mm, 5.39 gm, 6h). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5. Cyzicus, 1/60 of the Roman pound standard, AD 286-287. IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Diocletian right / IOVI CO-NSE-RVATOR, Jupiter, nude but for chlamys on left shoulder, standing facing, head left, thunderbolt in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter with left; S C in exergue. RIC V.II 297 var. (CONSERVATORI). Calicó 4501 var. (same, different bust type). Apparently unique reverse legend variant for this early reign issue.
