IMP SEV ALE-XAND AVG, laureate bust of Severus Alexander right, seen from behind, drapery on left shoulder / P M TR P VIIII-CO-S-III P P, Severus Alexander as Romulus, radiate, wearing tunic and sagum, advancing right, transverse spear in right hand, trophy in left over shoulder. RIC IV.II 103. Calicó 3121 (same dies). A splendid aureus in an absolutely perfect state of preservation, certified at the highest level NGC assigns to ancient coins.

The type, depicting Alexander as Romulus in military dress, likely refers to preparations for war against the new Sasanid dynasty in Persia, which had launched aggressive attacks against Rome's eastern provinces.
