IC-XC barred, bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium and colobium, right hand raised in benediction, book of Gospels cradled in left; •-• (sigla) across fields, all in pelleted linear border within larger pelleted linear border containing eight points in margin between / KwNCTANTINOC ΔЄCΠOTHC O ΠAΛЄOΛOΓ / ΘV XAPITH BACIΛЄVC POMЄON, legend in the margins of two concentric pelleted rings, bust of Constantine XI facing, wearing crown with pendilia and maniakon; •-• (sigla) across fields. Sear -, cf. 2569 (half-stavraton). DOC 1787. S. Bendall, "The Coinage of Constantine XI," Revue Numismatique 1991, pl. XIV, 81 (this coin). Extremely rare. Dark toning with areas of red and blue. Note - the plates in Bendall incorrectly pair the obverse and reverse of 81 and 82.
