Christian VIII gold "Royal Academy of Engineering and the Arts" Award Medal ND (1841) MS62 PCGS, Bgs-189, Hede Collection-Unl. 37.5mm. 47.90gm. By Christensen F. A fleeting gold award medal granted to Rudolph Christian Böttger, a German inorganic chemist credited with the discovery of nitrocellulose, and who also worked on the improvement of electroplating. Struck in high relief, with a sharp and pleasingly frosted portrait of the Danish King, Christian VIII, to the obverse, and a standing winged genie holding a torch and drapery to the reverse. Though not noted on the holder insert, we would easily describe this piece as "cameo" owing to its clear contrasts between the devices and fields. A scarce and perhaps unique opportunity for our bidders.
