Louis XV gold 2 Louis d'Or 1773-W MS65+ PCGS, Lille mint, KM557.8, Gad-347. A sublime gem representative of this Double Louis d'Or, struck in the penultimate year of Louis XV's reign. While the broader type may be targeted in both a range of dates and from a variety of mints that operated in the day, locating such exceptional quality within the series is no small feat. With a quality of preservation that borders on rare for the type, this elite jewel exhibits sumptuous silken surfaces expressing glowing aurous luster at every turn. Louis's bust is sharply chiseled, providing a pleasing sense of depth against the fields, which themselves are outlined at the peripheries by razor-sharp legends.
