Henry VII (1485-1509) gold Angel ND (1495-1498) MS63 NGC, Tower mint, Pansy mm, S-2183, N-1696, Schneider-Unl. 5.15gm. (pansy) x hЄnRIC' x DI' x GRΛ' x RЄX: ΛGL' x Z x FRΛn' (saltire and double saltire stops), crowned, nimbate, and armored figure of St. Michael the Archangel with both feet on the Dragon (Satan), spearing with cross-tipped staff / (pansy) PЄR: CRVC' x TVΛ' x SΛLVΛ: nOS: XPЄ' x RЄD (saltire and double saltire stops), cross-topped Tudor shield over ship, h-(rose) above to either side. A fine style specimen executed from somewhat deteriorated dies, though revealing no clear evidence of wear or serious friction. Even from a quick glance, the quality of the piece can be readily discerned from the extremely clear figure of St. Michael, so often the first feature to become blurred by wear, if not poorly struck in the first place. At present, only a single MS64★ certifies finer.
