Commonwealth silver Pattern 6 Pence 1651 MS63 NGC, Sun mm, KM-Unl., ESC-217 (R2; prev. ESC-1498), N-pg. 206. 22mm. Milled edge. By Pierre Blondeau. Clearly the superior work of Blondeau in terms of consistency as well as overall quality, with crisply defined legends and raised features lavishly struck without a hint of weakness, impressed upon a cabinet-toned flan displaying glassy, peach-tinged fields. Choice Mint State and wholly attractive, with a practically as-struck level of preservation and exhibiting only the occasional light mark consistent with the assigned grade. A wonderful representative of this Blondeau Commonwealth Pattern, one of a few in this particular sale, and leaps and bounds a finer production than its hammered contemporaries. To date, the current offering is the finest certified by NGC, with a single other ranking as an AU55.
