George II gold 5 Guineas 1753 MS62 NGC, KM586.2, Fr-334, S-3666, Schneider-566. SEXTO edge. A gleaming offering of a type that proves elusive in fully uncirculated preservation. Produced upon a broad, lemon-gold planchet bearing a high degree of shimmering luster, this large gold emission easily stands out in hand owing to its inspiring brilliance and complete lack of any noteworthy marks or scratches. Even denticles frame the obverse periphery, centering the eye on a well-struck portrait of the King, whose features are clearly contoured against the surrounding fields, with all hair curls sharply cut and containing glints of golden light. The reverse is just as crisp, lacking in any traces of weakness and displaying pinpoint definition to the smallest details of the reverse shield motif. Of 25 examples certified between NGC and PCGS to date, this offering ranks as the sole MS62, and the absolute finest, with only three 61's seen by NGC and no others in Mint State condition.
