cf. KM-PS1. A nearly unattainable Proof set, which to our knowledge is the first example publicly offered since 2004 when we last had the opportunity to present such a six-coin set. This superior assemblage, with the two most significant coins, the 1/2 Sovereign and the Sovereign, both certified more highly than the set from that year, thus presents a fleeting opportunity. It is widely accepted that the 1821 set is among the very rarest of all British Proof sets. The fact that these coins found their way into the same pair of collector hands is more than unlikely, and this may well be the only instance in which our bidders have to acquire a complete group in a single lot for a very long time, if ever again. Encompassing all gold and silver types produced in 1821, the set's PR66 Deep Cameo-certified Sovereign easily ranks as the "star" of the group, representing the single-finest example of this issue across both NGC and PCGS combined. This pristine and heavily frosted example is joined by a needle-sharp and also fully cameoed near-gem 1/2 Sovereign, which, while displaying a hint of silver patina in the fields, exhibits nearly equal reflectivity and commendable eye appeal. The silver selections, bold and laden with deep cabinet tones and touches of iridescence, round out the set, ranking from near-choice to solidly gem conditions. All said, a wonderful opportunity for our bidders, and one which is likely to generate the fiercest competition.
