Great Britain
Victoria gold Proof "St. George" Sovereign 1871 PR63 Cameo NGC, KM752, S-3856, W&R-319 (R7), Marsh-84C (R2). Plain edge. Medal alignment. Large BP variety with recut WW initials on truncation. An inspiring representative of this highly challenging Proof Sovereign variety, which is recognized by Wilson and Rasmussen with an R7 rating, corresponding to only 1 to 2 specimens known. While we can confirm that the true number is not quite so small, it is nonetheless exceedingly challenging to locate so fine a representative as this. Ample frost over Victoria's bust yields a striking cameo effect, while the fields remain sharply mirrored and with just the barest traces of contact to cap the assigned grade. A wonderful example, and one which arguably appears even finer than its grade suggests.
