George V gold "Royal Military Academy" Award Medal 1922 MS64 NGC, BHM-4000. 44m. Issued by the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. A fleeting gold medal noted as "Rare" in British Historical Medals, Volume 3, and the first of its kind that we have offered. The edge is inscribed with the recipient's name: Normal A.M. Swettenham. Though the weight is not listed on the current holder insert, we note that at least one other example of this "King's Medal" design has been cataloged with a weight of ~56 grams, which seems relatively accurate for this piece in terms of its in-hand feel. The high-relief design is rendered upon a broad planchet bearing significant reflectivity, with light wisps of handling serving as the sole combined limiting factor to this near-gem selection. In all regards, a scarce opportunity.
