Ferdinand III silver "Sopron Coronation" Medal ND (1625) AU55 NGC, Montenuovo-809, Horsky-Unl., Voglhuber-212 (as Taler). 41mm. Approximately 29gm. By Hans Guett. Struck for the coronation of Ferdinand III as King of Hungary and Croatia at Sopron on December 8, 1625. Exceptionally preserved, particularly in light of the type's rarity, with generally crisp central features framed in graphite peripheral accents, the whole of the planchet lightly silver toned and exhibiting strong traces of underlying luster that particularly brighten in the protected areas to the reverse. A perhaps unique opportunity, and the sole example of the type that we have encountered. While NGC does not provide census information for this type, there is a relatively high probability that this represents the only certified example.
