British India. William IV gold Proof Restrike 2 Mohurs 1835-(c) PR63 Cameo NGC, Calcutta mint, KM452.1, Fr-1592b, Prid-3, S&W-1.4. Reeded edge. Hailing from the famed collection of King Farouk of Egypt, this choice selection represents an imminently collectible example of this elusive issue, which is scarcely located in this tier of certification. Sun-gold brilliance decorates the entirety of the surfaces, while clear reflectivity emits from the open expanses, instantly conveying a sense of careful preservation. Though exceedingly light, typical hairlines are noted to the fields, the pervasive golden frost to William's portrait and the reverse lion motif craft a clear cameo contrast that remains visible at every angle of inspection. This coin would be highly contested at face value alone, but its desirable pedigree should easily ensure a heightened level of collector interest. For reference, we note a recent though non-Cameo-certified example that we offered in May of this year (Heritage Auction 3091, Lot 31158), which sold for an all-in price of $66,000.
