Thorn. Margaretha van Brederode gold Angelot ND (1557-1577) MS62 PCGS, Fr-173f, Delm-266 (R2), CNM-2.42.1. 5.03gm. SAИCTVS: MICHAEL: ARCHAИGEL (double saltire stops), crowned, nimbate figure of St. Michael the Archangel standing facing with both feet on the Dragon (Satan), spearing with cross-tipped staff / MOИETA: ИOVA: AVREA: THORENSIS (double saltire stops), cross-topped shield over ship, M-B to either side above. An unusually fine presentation of this scarce and classically crude type, far outranking the Dr. Lawrence Adams specimen in terms of its overall preservation, and presently standing as the sole certified example at PCGS. Though usually heavily doubled, this coin retains a great degree of clarity, just the most minor scuffing over the dragon bounding the assigned designation just shy of choice.
