Republic gold Restrike Pattern Peso 18___ UNC, cf. KM-PnE37, cf. Pratt-M54. An unofficial restrike from Pattern dies of the Bueno Aires mint, struck in the latter part of the 20th century. An engrossing issue utilizing a Republic gold 8 Escudos 1863-LIMA host, first struck over as a restrike 50 Centavos Pattern and lastly as a Peso, leading one to posit that this coin was potentially an early test piece. Fully brilliant and simply as-struck, the central details remain strong and intricately engraved while legends and motifs extending outwards are lightly obscured due to the previous undertypes. An incredibly fun and enigmatic modern restrike that appears close in appearance to a vintage piece just issued.
