CALABRIA. Tarentum. Ca. 281-240 BC. AR stater or didrachm (20mm, 6.63 gm, 3h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 5/5, Fine Style. Ar-, magistrate. Single Dioscurus, chlamys flying behind, on horseback walking right, crowning horse with wreath in right hand, reins in left, horse raising right foreleg; AP monogram in left field / ΤΑ-ΡΑΣ, Taras astride dolphin left, shield decorated with hippocamp and two spears in left hand, Nike in right facing Taras and crowns him with a laurel crown; waves beneath. Vlasto 782. Remarkably detailed obverse die. Deep cabinet toning with rainbow hues throughout.
