Jotapian (ca. AD 248-249). AR antoninianus (23mm, 3.47 gm, 12h). NGC VF 4/5 - 2/5, bent. Nicopolis in Seleucia mint. IM C M F R IOTAPIANVS A, radiate, cuirassed bust of Jotapian right, seen from behind / VICT-ORIA-AV-G, Victory advancing left, wreath upward in outstretched right hand, palm cradled in left. Bland, Coinage of Jotapian, Essays Carson-Jenkins, 1993, unlisted dies. RIC IV.III 2a. Struck on a broad flan, with some porosity as is normal for Jotapian. Extremely rare: Bland could locate only 18 surviving antoniniani of Jotapian, who seems to have revolted in northern Syria late in the reign of Philip I.
