Basiliscus and Marcus, Eastern Roman Empire (AD 475-476). AV solidus (20mm, 4.46 gm, 7h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 3/5, edge bend. Constantinople, late autumn AD 475-August AD 476, 9th officina. D N bASILISCI-Et MARC P AVG, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust (of Basiliscus?) facing, head slightly right, spear in right hand over shoulder, shield decorated with horseman motif in left / VICTORI-A AVGGG Θ, Victory standing facing, head left, long jeweled cross with diagonal crossbar in right hand; star in right field, CONOB in exergue. RIC X 1024. Depeyrot 105/2. Perfectly struck and centered on broad, satiny flan.

Basiliscus made his young son, Marcus, co-emperor in late AD 475, but it did nothing to shore up the regime.
