Louis XV gold 1/2 Louis d'Or 1717-A MS65+ NGC, Paris mint, KM430.1, Gad-335 (R2). Referred to as a 1/2 Louis d'Or de Noailles, misattributed as a single Louis d'Or in the Standard Catalog of World Coins (and holder insert). A mesmerizing offering of the young, crowned Louis XV imbued with a shimmering brilliance one would expect from a modern production, the canary-gold planchet bathed in frosted reflectivity and nary a visual detractor. Very elusive in this elite gem grade, with a single other submitted to NGC in this tier of preservation and a single MS66 finer which sold in our 2018 August ANA Platinum Night Auction for $7,800, inclusive of buyer's premium.
