Great Britain
William I, the Conqueror (1066-1087) Penny ND (1074-c. 1077) MS63 NGC, London mint, Godwine as moneyer, Two Stars type, S-1254, N-845. 1.33gm. +ǷILLEM REX ΛN, crowned and diademed bust of William facing between two stars / +GODǷINE ON LVNI, cross botonnee over quadrilateral with incurved sides and annulet at center. A lesser-seen, and typically quite crude, type from William's reign which escalates to an incredible rarity when encountered this fine. Only the second Choice Mint State specimen we have offered, the coin appears as a testament to "what could have been" for so many lower-grade examples--the flan essentially perfect and very even, endowed with clear lettering and fine die polish.
