Great Britain
Edward III (1327-1377) gold Noble ND (1363-1369) AU55 NGC, Tower mint, Cross Potent mm, Treaty Period, S-1503, N-1232, Schneider-Unl. (annulet) ЄD | WΛRD: DЄI: GRΛ: RЄX: ΛnGL': DnS: hyB' x Z (retrograde) x AQ | T' (double saltire stops), Edward crowned, standing facing in ship, sword in right hand, shield in left / + IhC ΛVTЄm TRΛnSIЄnS PЄR mЄDIVm ILLORV IBΛT (without stops), large floriate cross with Є at center (on side), crowned lions in angles, all within polylobe with trefoils in spandrels. A most intriguing die pair for the type, not least as the reverse is entirely missing any stops within the legends, and the central Є is laying on its side in orientation with the cross initial mark. This is the first such example we have been able to locate with these features, and, as such, certainly represents a unique occasion for the specialist collector. Mislabeled on the holder as S-1502.
