Edward III (1327-1377) gold Noble ND (1369-1377) UNC Details (Obverse Damage) NGC, Calais mint, Cross Patteé mm, Post-Treaty Period, S-1521, N-1281, Schneider-115 var. (punctuation). 7.73gm. ЄD | WΛRD' x DI x GRΛ x RЄX x ΛnGL' x F (retrograde) x FRΛnC' x DnS: hIB' x F (retrograde): AQVIT' x (saltire and double stops), crowned, armored figure of Edward standing facing in ship, shield in left hand, sword in right / +Ih'C: ΛVTЄm: TRΛnSIЄnS: PЄR: mЄDIVm: ILLORVm: IBΛT (double saltire stops), large floriate cross with Є• at center, crowned lions in angles, all within polylobe with trefoils in spandrels. A coin whose technical designation betrays its superior quality of execution, boasting on the whole an aesthetic of a fully choice specimen. Bound in its grade by just a small punch in Edward's shield and a slight scuff in the waves, rarely does Edward's coinage come more nicely struck, with this indeed being one of only 6 Post-Treaty Period Nobles to pass through our hands, and the second-finest among those 6.
