Great Britain
Henry VI (2nd Reign, Restored) gold Angel ND (1470-1471) AU Details (Reverse Scratched) NGC, Tower mint, Pierced (Restoration) Cross mm, S-2078, N-1613 (R), Schneider-439. 5.10gm. x hЄnRICVS x DI x GRΛ x RЄX x ΛnGL' x Z (retrograde) x FRΛnC (pierced cross), nimbate figure of St. Michael the Archangel standing with left foot on the Dragon (Satan), spearing with cross-tipped staff / PЄR CR | VCSЄ' x TVΛ' x SΛLVΛ x nOS x XPC x RЄDЄ' x TOR (trefoil stops), cross-topped shield over ship, h-(lis) to either side above. A very elusive piece from Henry VI's brief second reign, the vast majority of which are clearly "find" coins with heavy bending and/or creasing. While a minor scrape does exist to the right of the ship on the reverse, the strike of this piece is quite exemplary, sure to make this a clear target for the collector of English hammered gold.
