Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold 1/2 Angel ND (1509-1526) AU53 NGC, Tower mint, Crowned Portcullis mm, First Coinage, S-2266, N-1761, Schneider-568. 2.55gm. (crowned portcullis) hЄnRIC (large crook-shaped abbreviation) + VIII (large crook-shaped abbreviation) x GRΛ' x RЄX x ΛGL', nimbate figure of St. Michael the Archangel trampling the dragon (Satan), spearing with cross-tipped staff (saltire stops) / (crowned portcullis) :O: CRVX: ΛVЄ: SPЄS: VnnICΛ: (double-saltire stops), cross-topped Tudor shield over ship, h-(rose) above. A generally much more difficult denomination than the larger full Angels, with this being only the second example we have offered, and the second finest yet seen by NGC.
