James VI 1/3 Ryal 1567 XF45 NGC, Edinburgh mint, S-5476. 32.5mm. A scarce example of this 16th-century fractional type, and one that apparently escaped the (crowned thistle) countermarking process in the later revaluation of 1578. Original examples of this issue rarely appear on auction, and this offering, with its pleasing original surfaces, blanketed in silver patina and showing residual traces of luster that embrace the devices, should see strong collector interest.
