Philip V gold "VIII" 8 Escudos 1701 S-M AU53 NGC, Seville mint, KM260, Fr-247, Cal-2266, Onza-461. Flowers beside fleece variety. An exceptionally seldom-encountered large gold emission from Philip's first full year of his reign, and a popular subtype with flowers beside the fleece at the base of the obverse. This conditionally challenging issue is typically seen in comparable and lesser grades, with only a single noted finer by NGC, topping out at AU55. In terms of appearances, the piece at hand, dressed in pale-gold surfaces, displays only light, honest wear to the high points of the raised features while an abundance of die polish remains evident to the gently marked fields. Exceedingly sought-after in any condition let alone approaching Mint State and surely worth of advanced levels of bidding.
