WESTERN SAMOA. Bank of Western Samoa. 5 Pounds, 1961. P-12. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58.
Overprint on Western Samoa P-9A. Red "Bank of Western Samoa" overprint. An incredibly appealing offering of this large format 5 Pound note. At center is a boat containing two occupants. Above the central vignette is a colorful design showcasing intricate lathe work. The border design is compromised of dark purple ink with "5" counters in each corner. The reverse of the note displays aqua-violet-aqua color showcasing a detailed design. The paper remains milky-white and the note itself is found in an attractive Choice About Uncirculated grade. This note is the sole example graded by PMG at the time of cataloging, which is a testament to it's rarity. Just a few other examples are recorded in Track and Price's census over the years, with appearance being few and far between over the past decade. PMG comments "Pinholes." PMG Pop 1/No Others Graded.
