PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Arsinoe II Philadelphos, Died 270/68 B.C. AR Dekadrachm (35.54 gms), Alexandreia Mint, struck under Ptolemy II ca. 261/0 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
CPE-331; Svor-488; cf. SNG Cop-135-6 (control letter); Troxell-Transitional Group, p. 42. Obverse: Veiled head right, wearing stephanos and ram's horn; lotus-tipped scepter in background, N to left; Reverse: Filleted double cornucopia, with grape bunches hanging at sides. Incredibly original for the type, which is generally encountered with poor metal quality and some form of damage to the surfaces, this charming example presents an alluring gunmetal gray cabinet tone along with even wear upon the high points, but no distracting issues. Additionally, the strike is quite well centered, with nearly complete legends on the reverse. An exceptional example and VERY RARE so pleasing. A keystone type coin for any advanced ancient collection.

From the Collection of a Gentleman.

Ex: Frank Grove & Robert Grover Collections (Superior - 6/1986) Lot # 1570.

Estimate: $15000 - $25000
