KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great'. 336-323 BC. AR Drachm (16mm, 4.15 g, 8h). Sidon mint. Struck under Menes. Dated RY 7 of Abdalonymos (327/6 BC). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; Phoenician Z (= 7 [date]) in left field. Cf. Price 3483 (tetradrachm); cf. Newell, Dated 22 (same); cf. DCA 869 (same). Toned, trace deposits, some marks and scuffs. Near VF. Extremely rare, one of two known, the other in a private collection (and from the same dies).

From the BRN Collection.

See Newell, Dated, pl. II, 6 for a tetradrachm of this date, struck from dies that were likely engraved by the same celator as this drachm.
