SASANIAN KINGS. Kavad I. AD. 488-497. Æ (3.36 gm; 30 mm). Sunrise 969. Special issue of Kavad I, on the obverse, bust of Kavad tuning right, standard second reign crown with upward flowing ribbons, text outside of the ring, on the 3rd quarter phrase "Apzn", the second quarter phrase ShH? reverse; figure turning right, with a crown similar to that of Ardashir I and right hand raised, the letters "ShT which is first part of the name ShTRYWR (Shahrevar) is in the front of the face and letters "YZDTY" meaning "divinity" (similar to "Yazdan") behind the head, starting at 12 o'clock, clockwise, the phrase "pl'hwyn-ytn"(meaning "Dispenser of prosperity" or "make prosperity increase" per M.I Mochiri's extensive research on the subject). Per MacKenzie's Pahlavi dictionary, Sharevar means the best and most admired rule/governance. Extremely rare in any condition. Brown-reddish patina. Holed.
