A note from BCD: In his introduction to this catalogue, George Hanfmann states that among the acquisitions of the collector "there is one which was strongly approved by his advisors, but has since been questioned as possibly a clever modern cast after an ancient piece". We now know this piece to be no. 86, copied from an original that appeared much later in Leu 30 (28 April 1982) lot 113. One cannot help wondering who were the "advisors" ...
